About this deal

I think a day later m Now, by this time in the account Daniel is over eighty years of age. He could well have been in retirement, but he kept serving these different kings, serving the Lord as he served these kings. By the way, this is a biblical phrase. You find it in Daniel chapter 2. You find the concept all the way through Scripture. And knowing and believing and reminding yourself of this reality, “Heaven rules,” I’m telling you, it’s what will keep you from going crazy in a broken, fallen, messed-up world—coronavirus, cancer, anything else—the constant reminder that “heaven rules.” If you know someone who’s going through a painful experience, it may be something you’d want to share with them as well. Just ask the Lord to give you wisdom and sensitivity about the right time to share it. Dannah: This is the Revive Our Hearts podcast with Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth, author of Heaven Rules, for Tuesday, September 13, 2022. I’m Dannah Gresh.

I want to just meditate on verse 10 today, and then that last verse, verse 11, in our program tomorrow. As I’m meditating on this passage, I’m asking, could that be said of me? Could it be said of us? There’s nothing that the enemies of God can find to support their accusations, against us or our God?This world is not a friend of grace, so let’s stop expecting it to be. The goal of this world is to bring down the Most High God. So, God’s servants will face opposition. We will be maliciously accused as Daniel and his friends were, but in the midst of it all our faithfulness to God, our prayers, our courage, our faith, our perseverance, our willingness even to suffer, all of this provides an opportunity for the power of God to be showcased, put on display. And remember, no matter what you’re going through that is no friend to grace, in God’s way in His time, He will deliver and rescue all those who trust in Him. Heaven rules. You see these pictures and experiences—Robert and I did when we had to run an errand the other day—of these downtown streets and shops that are usually just filled with people and activity and now they’re all strangely empty. But as the Lord leads, would you consider giving to Revive Our Hearts? We’d be so grateful for that! And, yes, your donation today will be effectively doubled because of the matching gift that’s available right now. You see Daniel’s prayer life throughout the book of Daniel. But here we see he had purposeful, intentional prayer. He prayed after hearing about the edict. He knew what he was doing; he was praying on purpose. It was private prayer; it was in his house. He wasn’t trying to be seen or impress others with his prayer life, and yet it was bold prayer. He wasn’t afraid for others to know that he was praying, for others to see him praying. He wasn’t trying to hide his faith or his prayer life. God vindicated his servant; God rescued His servant. God sent an angel. Many times in Scripture this happens. We learn in Hebrews chapter 1 that angels are ministering spirits sent out by God to serve those who were going to inherit salvation. This is what angels do: they are God’s messengers, they’re His ambassadors, they come to rescue. Psalm 34:7 says, “The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and rescues them.”

I trust you had a great Christmas weekend. I hope you have a fridge full of leftovers so you can enjoy some time off kitchen duty! Is your tree circled with opened gifts? Even if it’s not, is your heart overflowing with a greater love and wonder at what Jesus has done for us?That same afternoon, your medical sonogram was misread, and we were told that there may be significant problems with your brain. The next week was very difficult as we processed through what life could be like. You are now completely strong and safe in the arms of God, who heard our prayers. Your short earthly life has already made a huge impact on so many people. You are a testimony of God’s faithfulness, goodness, and love. It was the only thing that came to mind to tell them as we departed. The lamp for our feet is only so bright these days. I would love to have a searchlight to help us see what is ahead and prepare, but we trust the Giver of Light to give us what we need and when we need it. We have to learn what He wants to teach us through all of this and steward the pain and steward the suffering well, with the goal of pointing others to the Author and Finisher of our faith. [Nathan wrapped up that text by saying], These are just some thoughts from a crushed daddy’s heart who is clinging to the Good Father who never changes and will never forsake us.

In fact, when we showed that video at True Woman, Nathan and Katie were not there because she was just less than a week away from delivering that precious little girl! And we announced that at True Woman . A friend texted me just a few minutes ago, and she said, “The one word I would use to summarize how I feel right now is discombobulated.”In fact, celebration here, a week ago today, Robert had what we believe is his final chemo treatment of six. We are so excited, so grateful. An initial scan done a few months ago indicates that the chemo is working. The said, "complete response." Those are words you want to hear. About six weeks from now he'll be getting another scan, and our hope is that it will be all clear and we can move on. Dannah: What an encouraging reminder from the host of Revive Our Hearts, Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth. She’ll continue in Psalm 29 tomorrow. As we mentioned at the start of the episode, today and tomorrow’s programs were some of our most-listened-to in 2020. Now, let’s just say God could have rescued Daniel before he got into the lions’ den, but in His infinite wisdom, He didn’t choose to do it that way. Heaven rules, and we submit to Heaven’s rule. And this whole COVID thing, coronavirus, cancer, these are visible reminders to us, tangible reminders, things we feel very deeply, that this world is still under the curse of sin. But we’re also encouraged to wait in hope for that promised day when the curse will be no more, when Christ will reign as King, with no rivals, no sin, no pain, no tears, no brokenness—only the beautiful reigning light of Christ. If you’ve wondered how that went—as many have—I’m thrilled to tell you that precious little Natalie Joy was born this fall, and she’s a beautiful, healthy two-month old baby!

So the king is in distress. He cares for Daniel. He admires him. He’s unable to eat or sleep, and by the way, there’s no indication of that being true of Daniel. It’s the king who was exercised. No doubt that Daniel prayed in that lions’ den, as he was accustomed to doing. And, to add to the equation, in the midst of all the craziness of the pandemic and coronavirus and all of the fallout of that; as I’ve shared with you over the last couple of months, in the middle of March, my husband Robert was diagnosed with cancer. And many, many of you have prayed for us. I want to say, “Thank you!” Now, this angel may have been one of God’s created servants, or it may have been as we think was probably the case in the fiery furnace chapters earlier, a preincarnate appearance of Christ Himself. One thing we know for sure, God was with Daniel, as He had been with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in that fiery furnace. Emmanuel God is with us, in the king’s palace, in the fiery furnace, in the lions’ den. We could not be more grateful for how the Lord has walked with us on this journey, how He has provided for us, and the sweetness of the prayers and encouragement that we have received from God’s people. We’re so grateful for that, but, again, that news threw our world into even more of a tailspin, adding to the coronavirus that cancer diagnosis. The decree could not be altered, it could not be revoked. But Heaven rules, right? The most high God is above every king, every edict. He can do whatever He wants to do. He could and in time He would overrule the irrevocable decree of the king.

When Your World Falls Apart

And that leads me to the Word of God. If you have a Bible, I want to encourage you to open to the book of Psalms, Psalm chapter 29. I want you to see this, be able to read it for yourself. And I want to focus on the last two verses of this psalm that have been my go-to verses in recent months. Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: If we believe that earthly people and governments and forces rule, if we believe they are the ultimate rule, then we’re always going to be adjusting our behavior to please those people. But if we really believe that heaven rules, we will be free from the fear of man, and we’ll be able to obey our God no matter what the laws or the culture may say. I’m Dannah Gresh.
